Episode 289: Focusing on Wellness – “Physical Wellness.”

What does health feel like? Probably as soon as I asked this question you thought about what your body feels like – such as noticing if you are tired or have lots of energy right now, if you are hungry or if you feel like you are sick or in pain. Some people are really good at noticing if they are dehydrated, while others of us begin to think about how much movement we engage in typically or what our eating habits are like. The late writer and civil rights activist Audrey Lorde wrote these words:

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

She lived with breast cancer for 14 years before it took her life at age 58, but caring for her body, while she was alive, was the way she could continue to work for justice on multiple fronts – the thing that gave her life meaning.

So today, our multiracial team of antiracism educators and friends gathered around the mics to talk about physical health in this series where we are focusing on wellness.
