It is a common occurrence to have seasons of closeness to God and times when we have doubt and struggle. Struggles and feeling separated from God are common, so common that Christian mystics refer to these seasons as the “dark night of the soul.” These seasons have not always led people away from God, but in the Western world over the last 200 years, doubt – combined with troubles with individual congregations or church denominations – has increasingly given way to a decrease in church attendance and even belief in the existence of God at all. So regardless of how close or far from God you may feel, what are the ingredients of spiritual wellness to sustain you on your journey with God through these peaks and valleys? Spiritual wellness is something few Christians talk about, but perhaps we should do so more often.
Our team of Christian antiracism educators and friends have a vulnerable and honest conversation about spiritual wellness as we conclude our wellness series.
